Gardens and green spaces

The grass is very long. Should I cut it low in one go?

Removing most of the leaf at once weakens a maintained lawn. Reduce its height gradually.

NAPREMO guide · Updated: 4 November 2026.

What you can do

  1. Walk the area first and check for stones, rubbish, animals and hidden obstacles.
  2. Use suitable equipment and a high first cut, generally removing no more than one third of the height.
  3. Lower the cut over later sessions according to growth and weather; do not overload the mower.

How to tell whether it helped

A first cut may tidy the area without immediately producing an even lawn. Assess regrowth before cutting lower.

When to stop

Stop if the ground is hidden, there is rubble, woody growth or steep ground, or you cannot use the equipment safely.

How NAPREMO can help

NAPREMO green can cut an overgrown area and plan upkeep. Give its approximate size and say whether clippings should be collected and removed.
