Fixings, furniture and painting

A closed window feels draughty. Should I add a seal?

The cause may be a gasket, alignment or the frame-to-wall joint. Extra strip is not a universal fix.

NAPREMO guide · Updated: 4 November 2026.

What you can do

  1. Inspect accessible seals for dirt, gaps and cracks without leaning outside. Check whether airflow is intentional ventilation.
  2. Clean with a manufacturer-approved product and remove anything obstructing closure.
  3. Replace profiles or adjust only to the window instructions. Do not force the handle or cover air inlets.

How to tell whether it helped

The window should close without excess force. Persistent draughts need their source located.

When to stop

Arrange service for unstable heavy sashes, damaged hardware or leakage at the wall.
