Gardens and green spaces

Moss replaces grass. Should I simply add lime?

Moss alone does not prove acidic soil. Shade, compaction and prolonged wetness can favour it.

NAPREMO guide · Updated: 4 November 2026.

What you can do

  1. Compare the site after rain and in dry weather. Note standing water, shade and foot traffic.
  2. If reducing moss, adjust mowing and wear. Distinguish soil improvement from a drainage problem.
  3. Test pH before liming and base any dose on results. Plan renovation during grass growth, avoiding frost and drought.

How to tell whether it helped

Judge grass recovery, not just moss removal. Deep shade may suit different planting.

When to stop

Do not install drainage without locating services and a suitable outlet. Obtain approval on shared land.

How NAPREMO can help

NAPREMO GREEN can assess conditions and plan lawn recovery rather than apply products blindly.
