Buildings and shared areas

A crack has appeared on the facade. Can it simply be filled?

A photo cannot establish whether only the finish is cracked or something deeper is affected.

NAPREMO guide · Updated: 4 November 2026.

What you can do

  1. Photograph the crack and the whole wall from a safe position, noting the date.
  2. Look without touching for loose material, a corresponding indoor crack or newly sticking doors.
  3. Tell the owner or manager before covering the evidence.

How to tell whether it helped

Painting a crack is not proof of safety. Repair should follow assessment of its cause; keep any requested monitoring record.

When to stop

Keep people clear of fast-changing cracks, falling pieces or distortion. Immediate danger needs emergency help; structural assessment needs the appropriate qualified specialist.

How NAPREMO can help

NAPREMO can help plan repairs after the cause is established. A repair enquiry does not replace a structural assessment.
