Buildings and shared areas

Paving has sunk or rocks underfoot. Should I add sand?

Jointing sand will not repair a failed bedding layer or sub-base. First distinguish missing joints from movement of the paving.

NAPREMO guide · Updated: 4 November 2026.

What you can do

  1. Restrict use of the uneven area and tell the manager if it is communal.
  2. Note the extent and whether it followed rain, heavy traffic or utility work.
  3. Only stable paving with missing joints may be re-jointed using its specified material; this does not repair subsidence.

How to tell whether it helped

Repaired blocks should be stable and water should drain as intended. Check after rain for a remaining depression.

When to stop

Stop if subsidence spreads, blocks move or a utility leak or washout is suspected. Do not drive over or blindly fill the area.

How NAPREMO can help

NAPREMO can assess the required lift-and-relay work and drainage. Include nearby edges and drainage grilles in photos.
