What you can do
- Remove debris from the strainer.
- Remove and clean an insert only if its manual allows this; put it back correctly.
- Test with a small amount of water. Stop if the level rises.
How to tell whether it helped
Water should drain freely. Brief improvement followed by another blockage may indicate a problem further along.
When to stop
Stop for backflow, several blocked drains or previously added drain chemicals. Do not mix products, dismantle a chemical-filled trap or use compressed air.
